‘Dana Vespoli’s Real Sexy Diary 2’ in Stores Now

VENICE, CA – Dana Vespoli is always a terrific interview, but in her latest it’s her friend Sovereign Syre who is doing the questioning and with the two knowing each other so well – the latter certainly knows which questions to ask to bring out the Dana’s brand of thoughtful provocativeness – it’s a special kind of fascinating.

It’s a fairly long interview, but when it’s done one feels it could have gone longer. There is trust and playfulness and, even in a world that doesn’t always reward such things, they aren’t afraid to speak intellectually. They discuss the state of porn today, though not in the usual way, and how Dana’s vision(s) fit in with that. She is not a by-the-numbers pornographer, and she can sometimes frustrate the average porn fan with too much realism or getting artsy rather than just blasting through to the sex without any emotion.

“I come at it with respect for what it is, I come at it trying to have a meaningful experience with another person, or documenting a meaningful experience, or creating a situation where people can come together when we get down to the actual sex,” Dana says. “I know it sounds a little mystical or whatever, but I think when you lack respect for this thing, I think you lose it and it goes away, and that’s what I think happened with these companies. At a certain point no one wants to see a girl get made fun of. At a certain point people are watching this more for amusement than to be turned on.”

VENICE, CA – We might never know how many licks it takes to get to the center or a Tootsie Pop*, but we do know that Alfie’s feature interview on Dana Vespoli for Fleshbot comes in at more than 3,000 words.

Yes, she’s that interesting!

Titled “Dana Vespoli’s Rubber Fist of Defiance,” the piece opens up with one of the greatest descriptions of Dana that has been articulated so far:

Describing Dana Vespoli as just a pornographer is like labeling Andy Warhol as just a silkscreen printer. She defies definition. Vespoli is a shy subversive, a feminist shunned by feminists, a reclusive porn revolutionist.

The piece examines, assisted by Dana herself, just where porn is today and how someone like her – shooting off the tracks where her explosive creativity creates a new niche with nearly every movie released through her production company – can exist in an industry seemingly being strangled by pirating, budget restraints and fierce competition.

In reality, through her genre-defying product, Dana seems to struggle less with direct competition than with finding her audience. Her relationship with Evil Angel has given her the opportunity to search for and find those who connect with her movies. Of course, it’s an ongoing relationship and there is no predicting where the still-young director may take her audience in the future.

“I have a tendency to go really far sometimes,” Dana says. “I am subversive. I don’t know how else to be. And if I go too far, too hard, it can alienate people. It’s a marriage of art and commerce. I feel like if we are going to do femdom, let’s do femdom. Let’s go as far as we can, but that alienates a lot of people because a lot of fans of femdom are new to it. They don’t want to get scared away. I made two more Fluid movies and I also paid attention to certain things that have been doing well. Incest themes. Older/younger themes. I just put my own spin on those, like I did, My Evil Step Mom Fucked My Ass. It’s a little humorous. It tells you what it is. It fits with Evil. It is anal-based. It is creepy. I have to be creepy. I’m still figuring out my footing and finding what works.”

Director: ‘A Lot of What I Do Offends People. I’m a Pornographer.’

VENICE, CA – In Dana Vespoli’s latest release Fluid 3 there is a scene that was inspired by the real-life events surrounding former CBC Radio host Jian Ghomeshi who is facing sexual assault and choking charges for what he claims was consensual rough sex.

“The scandal that made countless Canadian women (including myself) question their own personal experiences with grey areas of consent can now be viewed through the nuance of a for-profit porno,” writes Elianna Lev for Vice.com.

Dana doesn’t deny that it was inspired by the case.

“I wanted to do something with water-bondage-type stuff and had an idea of someone interviewing a man with obscure sexual taste.

“That scene isn’t making light of the Jian Ghomeshi thing,” Dana continues. “I had one actress who said ‘I’d really enjoy exploring this in a safe place, because there’s something titillating and exciting about a man in power who’s dangerous, and I’m a woman who likes to take risks.’ And I said, ‘Well, if that’s what you’d like, I’d like to shoot it.’ But I can appreciate having a conversation about it.”

According to the article, the scene materialized after Sovereign Syre mentioned to Dana “that she was following the Ghomeshi scandal closely, and was aroused by certain elements of it—particularly the aspect of the power dynamic and the BDSM.”

“There’s a sexual fascination with it, not to take away what (allegedly) happened with these women,” Dana says in the article. “Of course people will take offense. A lot of what I do offends people, I’m a pornographer. I know there’s going to be people who are offended and I know there’s going to be people who find it titillating and exciting.”

‘Girls Kissing Girls 17’ and ‘Analingus 7’ in the Works

VENICE, CA – Dana Vespoli is shooting many popular series today and Lesbian Stepsisters can officially join the list.

The first came edition out last year and received tremendous reviews. ADT: ‘An Exceptional Release’; Shooting ‘Girls Kissing Girls,’ More ‘Analingus’
